Reading the results

Coverage varies indoors and out, and building materials make a real difference. Where indoor coverage is marginal, Wi-Fi calling is often the practical fix.

Choosing a network

If one network is clearly stronger at your main address, pick that one — allowance and price matter less than being able to make a call.

Start with coverage

Check your main postcodes first. A cheaper tariff on a weaker network is a false economy.

Then look at the terms

• EE — annual increase is a fixed 75p; roaming is £1.50 a day in the EU.
• Vodafone — index-linked annual increase; £1.60 a day EU roaming.
• O2 — index-linked annual increase; EU roaming included, £4.00 a day worldwide.

Then the price

Compare the monthly price inc VAT over the whole term, not just the headline. Our comparison page shows how each option stacks up against buying direct from the network.

Wi-Fi calling

Most modern handsets can route calls and texts over Wi-Fi when mobile signal is weak. Enable it in the phone's call settings — it uses your allowance exactly like a normal call.

Practical tips

• Position routers away from thick walls and metal.
• Keep Wi-Fi calling enabled as a fallback even where signal is normally fine.
• For a site with consistently poor coverage, talk to us about a signal repeater or a different network.
