Allowances & Data

In the UK

Unlimited allowances cover normal personal or business use. A fair usage policy applies, aimed at commercial resale, permanent tethering as a home broadband replacement, and other atypical use.

Roaming on an unlimited plan is capped separately — see the roaming articles.

Speeds

Speed depends on the network, the mast you're connected to and how busy it is. We don't publish speed comparisons because they vary too much by location.

Aggregated tariffs

Each connection contributes its own allowance into a shared pool. Ten lines with 20GB each give the account 200GB to draw on.

Sharer tariffs

Each connection has a low line rental and all data comes from one shared bundle bought at account level, from 25GB up to 5TB.

Important

Aggregated tariffs can't take a shared data bundle — you choose one model or the other. If usage is uneven across your team, a sharer bundle usually works out better.

What they are

Data-only SIMs carry a data allowance with no voice or text service. They suit 4G/5G routers, tablets, dongles, vehicle trackers and site cabins.

Choosing an allowance

• Light monitoring or telemetry: a small allowance is usually enough.
• A site office or backup line: pick a large or unlimited allowance and check coverage at the address first.

Coverage

Check the address on our coverage page before ordering. A router in a fixed location can't move to find signal, so coverage matters more than it does on a handset.

On the handset

• Set a data warning and limit in the phone's settings.
• Restrict background data for large apps.
• Download video and music over Wi-Fi.

Across a business account

• Review the account report each month and move heavy users onto a larger allowance.
• Consider a sharer bundle so light users subsidise heavy ones.
• Add data top-ups before the bill runs, rather than paying out-of-bundle rates.
